November pins: Artist and Scholar

We will be working on completing the requirements for the Artist pin and Scholar pin during the month of November.  My thinking is that our scouts will be doing some fun and cool art stuff leading up to Thanksgiving, so it's a perfect opportunity to combine efforts and help them earn their pin, and the Scholar pin fits right in with the things they will be doing leading up to the holiday break.  Remember that scouting is a family affair, and that doing things to satisfy requirements at home is encouraged!  You can find the requirements for the Artist and Scholar pins in your son's Webelos book or use the following worksheets:

As a bonus pin I suggest that you work on the Traveler pin requirements.  If you're going on a trip to see family or friends for the holidays it's a perfect time to expose your son to everything that goes in to planning a trip and earn a pin at the same time!  You can find the requirements in the book or on the following worksheet:

Craftsman leftover requirement

We had a lot of fun working on the Craftsman pin last month, but only one of our Webelos completed the requirements for it (good job, Daniel!)  The last requirement that needs to be completed by the rest of you is:

Make four useful items using materials other than wood that you and your Webelos den leader agree on, such as clay, plastic, leather, metal, paper, rubber, or rope. These should be challenging items and must involve several operations.

Do this and either send me pictures of these items or bring them in to a den meeting and we'll show it as complete.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys create!

Note:  One of the things about Cub Scouts, especially Webelos, is that we can not complete all of the pin requirements at the den meetings.  Several of the pins require our scouts to go and talk to people outside of scouting, like at school, church, or other places.  Family gatherings are usually a good time to knock out some of the requirements because most of our family members have different jobs, hobbies, and other things that help our scout complete a requirement.  Be sure and make David or Susan aware of these completions so we can keep track of them and award your son his pin at the next Pack meeting.  Thanks!

Don't forget - our regular den meeting will be tonight at 7:00pm - see you there!
