Welcome back to school and welcome back to our scout season. I hope everyone is excited about the activities we have planned for this year including an overnight trip to the U.S.S. Yorktown.
Don't forget we also have a fishing trip planned for this coming weekend that will be woo whooo! The fishing pond is at the FFA center in Covington and will start at 08:00.
In the event you don't catch any fish to eat, don't get upset because the Boy scouts have invited the webelos to the Troop 165 Fish Fry coming up on 8/25.  We'll be serving from 11:00am until 5:00pm at the Scout Hut, and the boys can come and see the hut and meet some of the scouts.  Tickets are $7 each, but if Pack 165 Webelos come in uniform they eat free!  Please let den leaders know if you or anyone you know is interested in attending the fish fry.

Arrow of Light recipients

We had a great crossover ceremony a couple of Mondays ago, and 4 of our Webelos received the Arrow of Light.  This award is the highest achievement that can be attained in Cub Scouts and is the only Cub Scout award that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform.

Our Arrow of Light recipients were:  Daniel Amann, Michael Bynum, Steven Brown, and Kevin Holly.  Congratulations, scouts, for all that you have achieved!  We look forward to seeing the other great things you will do on trail to Eagle Scout!

Good flag ceremony tonight!

Our Webelos did a good job getting the pack meeting started with the flag ceremony tonight.  David Wamer did well leading the rest of the den in properly carrying the flags to the front, posting the flags, and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.  Good job, guys!

Space Camp was great!

Our Webelos had a fine showing shooing their rockets at Space Camp this past weekend!  David Wamer, Nyle Anderson, and Kevin Holly all watched as their creations went way up off the pneumatic launcher, then dropped back down to earth.  Read more about Space Camp on http://pack165.blogspot.com!

It’s VERY ROMANTIC to dial in and be part of the February Parent/Committee telephone conference will be on 2/14 at 7:00pm.  It will be a short one, so please help lead the pack by dialing in and participating in the decision making that is done on the call.  Thanks!

We will be finishing up the Citizen and the Readyman pins this month.  Hopefully you have been working with your son on the Family Member pin at home.  Check the website at http://pack165webelos.blogspot.com for the worksheets (and other worksheets) so you can get stuff done at home! And either send me an email or let me know at the den meetings when your son does requirements at home.  We can’t do everything in the den meetings and I really want all of our scouts to finish up!

We had a great visit at Henry County Station 13 last Wednesday.  If you and your son were not able to make it please review the first aid requirements for Readyman and the flag requirements for Citizen with your son and let me know when you have done this.

We had a great Blue & Gold Banquet this past Saturday!  If you see Steve Ratmeyer (Bear den) thank him for letting us use the Fellowship Hall at St. Joseph’s Episcopal.  It was a great venue for the banquet and everything worked out well for us.  Woohoo!

Good time at Henry County Station 13!

Our Webelos had a good time visiting Henry County Station 13 tonight! We reviewed how to put up and take down the American flag as well as fold it correctly and give the honor and respect it deserves when we handle it, then we went over several scenarios and the first aid they would call for. Lt. Carter and his guys helped Cameron, Daniel, David, and Kevin to finish up the requirements for the Citizen and the Readyman badges - woohoo! Many thanks to David Wamer for setting this up for us!

Fire station Wednesday night 6:45pm

Hey, we will have our regular den meeting on Monday night at 7:00pm AND we have a special event this week: a trip to Henry County Fire Station 13! Mr. Wamer has us set up to work with one of his friends there so we can finish up the Readyman pin requirements as well as continue work on the Citizen pin. This is a great opportunity for us, and I hope we can all go. We will meet on Wednesday night at Henry County Station 13, located at 2815 Highway 20 East in McDonough. It's east of the church, but not too far. Let's meet there at 6:45pm so we can learn from one of Henry County's finest! And don't forget to bring money to pay for your family's meals at the Blue and Gold Banquet - $7 per person, scouts eat free! We need to the money in Monday night so we can finish the catering arrangements with Shane's. Any questions? Contact David Holly or Bruce Ferman!

Great Webelos campout!

We had a great time on the Webelos campout this past weekend!  5 of our Webelos went:  David Wamer, Steven Brown, Michael Bynum, Daniel Amann, and Kevin Holly.  All of them did well helping to set up the campsite, learning things from Mr. Wamer, cooking and cleaning up after dinner, staying warm (28 degrees!), and then putting up the duck boxes we built back in the fall.  We heard some good stories (Two Rocks, purple gorilla) and loved having the Boy Scouts from Troop 165 there to help them learn and grow.

Many thanks to Nathaniel Smith and the other Boy Scouts that came out to help our Webelos learn about camping and finish up a couple of the pins we have been working on.  And thanks to Doug Clemens for bringing them :-)  And many, many thanks to Mr. David Wamer for setting things up so we could camp at Panola Mountain Park!  It was awesome!

Sounds like the Pinewood Derby was a lot of fun!  Awards from the Pinewood Derby will be passed out at the Pack meeting next week, so come in uniform and don’t be late!  BTW, if your son got 1st or 2nd place in the den he is eligible to go to District Pinewood Derby on 2/18.  See Bruce Ferman for details.

Our Webelos Campout at Panola Mtn is THIS SATURDAY AT 1:00PM.  See the handouts from tonight for all the details.  Each of our Cub Scouts has to have an adult parent or guardian with them on the campout.  Please put your name on the sign-up sheet and make sure we have a medical form for you.

This year’s Blue & Gold Banquet will be on 2/11 details and cost TBD.  We will be doing everything we can to keep the cost low so everyone can come, so watch for more details.  See Michael Amann if you can help with decorations and/or ideas.

Thanks!
